British Virgin Islands - 31-Oct-2026 to 06-Nov-2026

Yes, we are going back to the BVI!

We are thrilled to announce we are set to head back to the BVI for our Fall 2026 Journey.  Our Journey last fall to the British Virgin Islands was amazing and with so much more to see and do, we decided to return.  On that note, we have added an extra day of sailing to the itinerary to explore more places throughout the BVI.

Journey Details

Itinerary

The cruising grounds of the British Virgin Islands offer some of the best conditions for sailors and sea lovers alike. With some 60 islands and clear turquoise waters, we have near endless options to enjoy the history, culture, and people of the BVI.

Along the way, we’ll explore the iconic destinations like the Baths at Virgin Gorda, Bitter End Yacht Club, and the only coral and limestone formed island of the BVI, Anegada. In sailing, flexibility is the key to the schedule. Weather, sea conditions, access to harbors, etc. can require us to makes changes on the fly to ensure we have the most complete and enjoyable journey.

With a maximum of only 8 crew total, expect a relaxed rhythm of short sails, snorkeling, and experiences on and off the boat that still leaves plenty of time for downtime and relaxation.

Travel Logistics

The Journey will start and end at Road Town, Tortola.  Embarkation will be between 10am and 11am on Saturday, October 31st and Disembarkation is set for Friday, November 6th by 10am.

There are two ways to get to Road Town, Tortola:

  • The easiest way is to fly into Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) on Beef Island and take a taxi to Road Town. There are not a lot of nonstop flights from the US.  You will probably need to go through Miami or Puerto Rico and then over to the BVI.
  • The second way is to fly into Cyril E. King International Airport (STT) and catch a one-hour ferry boat to Road Town, BVI.  Ferry boats cost around $60 to $80 each way. You have a good chance for some nonstop flights from the US main hubs and tickets tend to be less expensive but once you add in the cost for the ferry ride into BVI along with the extra time needed, it may be better to fly directly into the BVI (EIS airport).

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at martinandlake@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We mentioned the word "travel cooperative", by this we mean that life on the catamaran will often be a "team effort". Things like preparing meals onboard (and making decisions about what to make for each meal), cleaning up the galley, setting the table, etc will be "all hands on deck" tasks. (We will do most of the grocery shopping/provisioning for the boat ahead of time, but we will also be able to make other grocery "runs" during the week at sea.)

In addition, for both novice and experienced sailors, there will be opportunities to pitch in with tasks related to arriving and getting underway at our various stopping points (pulling in and tying up lines, etc.). There will also be times when you can experience the sailing and operation of the boat during the voyage.

Yes, and must be valid for six months past the travel date.

BVI uses US currency. Credit is accepted at most establishments. It is good to have some cash on hand for tips, small vendors, etc. ($10 cash per person tourism fee is required upon entry into the BVI.)

Travel insurance can be obtained by a number of providers on the internet. Below are two companies we have used before, along with the approximate cost.

Allianz Travel:

Travel Insurance - Affordable Plans Starting at $27 | Allianz Global Assistance

$3K trip insurance is approximately $165 for the Basic Plan

Travelex Insurance:
Travel insurance you can trust | Travelex Insurance

Up to $10K trip insurance is approximately $140 for the Essential Plan

We highly recommend you either bring your own snorkel and mask, or purchase/rent at the Moorings Dive Shop on Saturday before we depart. Fins are provided.

Sailing in the BVI is typically in very calm conditions, and seasickness is not an issue.  That being said, wind and wave conditions can be unpredictable, so we will have over the counter anti-motion-sickness medication onboard, in case it is needed.

We are two people who have grown tremendously in the past several years. Everyone's journey toward life improvement is completely unique. We are not therapists, nor experts in any other way in the therapeutic area. We have simply found that in our lives, we grow and change for the better through viewing and experiencing our world in new ways. We encourage you do do the same!

Life on a catamaran, and life in the BVI in general is very casual. Swimwear, coverups, activewear, and casual, comfortable summer clothing is what most people wear.  Water/hiking shoes (mainly onboard people go barefoot) are great when we visit the Baths of Virgin Gorda, or go on other simple hikes or when traveling in the dinghy. Hats, long sleeve SPF shirts, sunscreen, etc. are key items, since we will be exposed to a lot of sun. A light rain jacket/windbreaker is great in case of the quick rain showers we sometimes encounter. Large hard suitcases will be challenging to store, since space is limited. A large duffel (maybe one with rolling wheels) is a great alternative.  As people register to join us, we will send a more detailed suggested packing list to each participant.
